Getting There:
BY CAR:
From Glasgow M8, take the M898 across Erskin
Bridge (60p toll) then follow the A82 towards
Crainlarich. Keep following the A82 onto
Taynuilt (and Oban) until you reach a sign to
the LEFT for A85 to Oban. Upon reaching Oban,
follow signs for the town centre, then for the
Caledonian MacBrayne
Ferry terminal. You must check in
one hour (latest 30 mins) before your ferry
departs.
On leaving the ferry at Craignure
turn RIGHT towards Tobermory on A849. After
passing through the village of SALEN follow a
sign to the left for DERVAIG. Follow this road
for about 11 miles until you reach a T-junction.
Turn right go up the hill, you will see the
Bellachroy Hotel on your left. Follow the road
round the back of the hotel where there is a
large car park.
From Tobermory – follow the B8073
signed to Dervaig, follow the winding road into
the village where you will reach the Bellachroy
hotel directly in front of you as you descend
the hill, turn right to reach the large hotel
car park.
BY
FERRY:
From Oban take the
Caledonian MacBrayne
Ferry to Craignure. It is advisable to pre-book
both ways in advance in summer. Reservations:

Alternatively, coming by way of
Glencoe, Ballachulish Bridge and Corran Ferry,
you can use the Lochaline - Fishnish car ferry;
since this cannot be booked, at busy times you
should not travel too late in the day. From
Kilchoan the ferry takes 35 minutes to Tobermory.

BY TRAIN:
Take the train from Glasgow Queen Street Station
to Oban, there is a short walk of 200 yds to the
Calmac ferry terminal. You can cross as a foot
passenger then take a local bus or taxi from
Craignure.

Getting around Mull:
Dervaig is approx 7 miles from
the main town of Tobermory and only 23 miles
from the ferry terminal at Craignure (40 minutes
away).

BY BUS:
You can get to most parts of the island by bus.
Services given below are for Apr-Oct. Winter
services are less frequent. There's a bus from
Tobermory post office to Dervaig and Calgary, 5
times a day Mon-Fri and twice on Sat (operated
by RN Carmichael, Tel. 01688-302220). The
Craignure buses to Tobermory via Salen service
runs 5 times a day Mon-Fri, 8 times on Sat and 3
times on Sun (operated by Bowman's Coaches, Tel.
01680-812313, and Highlands & Islands Coaches,
Tel. 01680-812510). There's a bus from Craignure
to Fionnphort (for Iona) 6 times a day Mon-Fri,
4 times on Sat and 1 on Sun (Bowman's and
Highlands & Islands). There's also a post bus
service from Salen to Burg (Kilninian) via the
Ulva Ferry twice a day Mon-Sat (Royal Mail, Tel.
01463-256200). For bus times, contact the
operators or pick up a free copy of the Mull
Area Transport Guide at the tourist office in
Oban, Tobermory or Craignure. This also includes
ferry times.
BY CAR:
The island's 140 miles of roads are almost all
single-track, so allow plenty of time to get
from place to place. Passing places are a plenty
and are used for allowing other cars to overtake
you if you are going at a more leisurely pace.
Petrol stations can be located in Craignure,
Salen and Tobermory, or fill up before leaving
Oban.
CAR HIRE:
From MacKay’s Garage in Tobermory, or at the Bay
view Garage just outside Craignure, on the road
to Toronsay Castle. Expect to pay around £32-35
a day.
CYCLING:
Is a good way to get around and there are a
number of places to rent bikes. In Tobermory
there's Tom-a' Mhuillin on the Salen Rd, Tel.
01688-302164, Brown's Hardware shop on Main St,
Tel. 01688-302020, or try the youth hostel. In
Salen there's On Yer Bike, Tel. 01680-300501,
which also has a shop by the ferry terminal in
Craignure, Tel. 01680-812487. Expect to pay
around £8-10 per day.
